North Cascades Glaciers

  • This page is a work in progress. Eventually I would like to keep tabs on most of the glaciers in the North Cascades and update their area on an annual basis.

  • For now I’ll probably just focus on the largest glaciers and maybe highlight some of the ones which have disappeared

  • Below you’ll see map of all the glaciers identified in the North Cascades, and more specifically in the National Park. You can zoom in to learn more about them

All North Cascades Glaciers

  • All glaciers in the Washington Cascades identified by Fountain et al. (see citation below) glacier inventory north of Snoqualmie Pass

  • Most glacier sizes come from 2015 satellite data (almost all glaciers have shrunk since then)

  • Glaciers larger than 0.1 km^2 in area are ranked by size

  • Data source: Fountain, A. G., Glenn, B., and Mcneil, C.: Inventory of glaciers and perennial snowfields of the conterminous USA, Earth Syst. Sci. Data, 15, 4077–4104, https://doi.org/10.5194/essd-15-4077-2023, 2023.

North Cascades National Park Glaciers

  • Map of all glaciers in North Cascades National Park identified by Fountain et al. (see citation below) glacier inventory

  • Most glaciers come from 2015 satellite data

  • Glaciers larger than than 0.1 km^2 in area are ranked by size
